Not for the squeamish fisherman! After the salmon have spawned and died, their decaying bodies drift downstream getting caught up in log jams or stranded in shallow water. As their bodies decompose, chunks of their flesh break off and float downstream. Rainbow trout and Dolly Varden feed voraciously on this flesh. I have witnessed huge rainbows literally pulling chunks of decaying flesh off salmon carcasses that were hung up on log jams. |
